How did the idea for the business come about?

Pink Spaghetti PA Services was established 7 years ago by Caroline Gowing and Vicki Matthews, it was so successful they went on to franchise the model.  In 2014 I was facing redundancy from my role as Head of Human Resources as the organisation I was working for was being privatised when a parent from school who knew of my pending redundancy sent me a message one evening saying “I really think that you should look at this” it was the Pink Spaghetti website, I saw it, loved it and knew it was for me.

When was the company first established?

I undertook franchisee training in September 2014 and Pink Spaghetti Chester and North Wales opened for business in January 2015.

How is the business doing?

I am about to celebrate my second birthday and the business is thriving, I have a great portfolio of clients including recruitment agencies, restaurants, beauty salons, campervan hire, holistic therapists, dance schools, a football academy and lots more.  I have two-part time team members who are excellent and this allows me to continue to network and promote the business and also deliver social media training which is something that I really enjoy.

Since the company began, what has been the biggest challenge?

It was the personal challenge of moving from working within a large organisation where everybody had a specific role and I could call for help or advice such as IT support to working on my own.  The Franchise network was invaluable however there was a lot to learn and constant change as the business grew and processes needed to regularly be adapted.

What makes you stand out from your competitors?

I believe that our offering is fundamentally different.  At a local level an independent Virtual Assistant is limited to their own knowledge and their own time.  On a national level, our competitors, such as Smart PA are focussed on the corporate client – there is no one else looking after micro Business owners, for their business and domestic tasks. So we really shine in terms of knowledge, speed and levels of service due to having a local presence but also having access to the franchise network.

What’s been your best business decision?

Hiring staff, the business has been able to grow rapidly as I am now able to run the business while managing to meet deadlines and peaks of work from clients.

What is next for Pink Spaghetti?

I am hoping that 2017 will bring consistent growth and a third team member.

If you could help one business now with a single piece of advice, what would it be?

Don’t try to tackle everything yourself do what you are best at and outsource or hire staff to undertake some of the tasks. Do whatever your budget allows to enable you to do what you love and to grow your business.
