So, what does Canyudo do?

Canyudo is a gamified to-do list – it organises tasks and people in groups or alone and scores the results.

This means that managers, volunteer organisations, families – anyone – can see who’s best/quickest/both or neither and find new people nearby to fill opportunities.

What’s behind the business idea?

We publish MMORPGs already for 15 years and had over 30 million customers. Volunteers run our games for us – we just organise it all and keep it running. We think volunteers are awesome and wanted to use game design to help them succeed. While building it we realised that we could use it to serve the short-lead hires market.

Was it hard becoming a business owner?

No. It was obvious, perhaps inevitable as I’m a pretty independent-minded person who likes to lead by example and enjoys solving problems.

How did you recruit your employees?

By amazing good-fortune! Because we have so many volunteers, we can work with people for years on a goodwill basis and then when a salaried opportunity arises we usually already know which candidate we want to lock-in.

Was there a breakthrough moment?

Realising that we can deliver the worlds first working example of a pay-it-forward economic system via the app, by using blockchain. Read that again…

How is the company doing?

Outstanding! We have app prototypes in iOS and Android and Chrome and Web are coming on strong. We will launch this coming month.

Do you have any regrets? If so how did you overcome them?

Yes! I wish we’d launched the ICO six months earlier! We don’t need the ICO in some ways (we need blockchain but our revenue model means we can sail without) – and since ICOs got a bit toxic in the media we’ve ended up generating mixed messages in the eyes of some observers.

But ‘meh’ – not really. We are totally loving all of this.

What makes you stand out from your competitors?

We are looking philosophically at the inherent ethos of web 3.0/IoT/Sharing Economy and trying to imagine in what ways this differs fundamentally from web 2.0/Social – it seems sometimes that other publishers don’t yet see the necessity of this.

What is your definition of a positive customer experience?

One which generates more than two positive referrals.

You’re currently reaching out for investors, what do you plan to do when you have raised this funding?

We will launch the first commercial market product (an online employment agency) and while the ICO is proceeding we will begin to onboard charities, NGOs and other ‘good causes’.

If you could help a business now with a single piece of advice, what would it be?

Listen to your customers, to your colleagues – consider carefully what you might learn by doing so.

Do your best. If you think it is a bad idea it probably is. If you don’t think it is a bad idea you don’t need ‘permission’.

Wakes Cakes. (these totally rock and my recipe is yours!)
