Zoom Phone is a cloud phone system built into the Zoom app many teams already use for meetings, with published UK prices, monthly or annual billing and no long contract. BT Cloud Voice is BT's hosted VoIP system for businesses with five or more users, sold per licence on terms of up to five years, with desk phones configured for you and support from BT's UK helpdesk.
TLDR: if you want a low monthly cost, no long contract and your team already works in Zoom, then Zoom Phone is clearly the easier starting point. But if you'd rather have a UK-supported system from the company that runs the network, with configured desk phones and someone to manage the switch, BT Cloud Voice is worth a quote.
Whichever provider you choose, calls will run over your internet connection, so if your broadband drops out regularly, fix that first with our business broadband comparison.
This guide compares Zoom Phone and BT Cloud Voice on plans, pricing, call packages, contracts, handsets, support and customer reviews, so you can work out which one fits how your business works.

*Zoom UK prices excluding VAT. Zoom's pricing page defaults to US dollars, so confirm the GBP price at checkout.
**BT licence prices from BT Business, excluding VAT. Call plan price from BT authorised partner Netify, based on BT's April 2026 price book.
On list price alone, Zoom Phone costs about half as much as BT Cloud Voice for unlimited UK calling. In practice, the gap is often smaller, because BT partners discount licences heavily, but BT's longer contract and annual price rises change the maths over five years.
What Do You Actually Get on Each Plan?
Zoom Phone plans
It's easy to assume Zoom is a video meetings tool with a phone bolted on. In practice, Zoom Phone is a full cloud phone system, and Zoom sells a dedicated UK and Ireland calling plan. According to Expert Market's March 2026 review, UK buyers can choose from four options:
UK & IRL Metered (£8 per user per month): VoIP calling, UK SMS and 50 pages of online fax a month, with outbound calls charged per minute
UK & IRL Unlimited (£12 per user per month): unlimited calls to UK and Irish landlines and mobiles, plus call recording
Pro Plus (£15.38 annually or £18.45 monthly): Zoom Phone bundled with Zoom Workplace Pro, including 30-hour meetings for up to 100 people, team chat and AI note-taking
Business Plus (£17.08 annually or £20.49 monthly): adds 300-person meetings, unlimited online fax, single sign-on and managed domains
All prices exclude VAT. Every plan includes unlimited calls between colleagues, and calls abroad are charged at metered rates unless you add Zoom's international calling bundle.
BT Cloud Voice licences
BT Cloud Voice works differently. You buy a licence for each user, then a call plan on top. BT's three licences, on a 60-month term, are:
Basic (£10.52 per user per month): online portal, automatic call routing, hunt groups (several phones ringing on one number) and call transfer, even to mobiles
Connect (£13.74 per user per month): everything in Basic, plus voicemail to email, Call Director (showing your office number when you call from elsewhere) and Webex voice and video meetings
Collaborate (£20.09 per user per month): everything in Connect, plus larger and longer Webex meetings, personal meeting rooms and the option to add call recording and analytics
The desktop and mobile Webex apps come with Connect and Collaborate, not Basic. In our experience, Basic suits a reception desk, workshop or warehouse phone, while most office and hybrid staff need Connect.
Calls sit outside the licence. BT offers pay-as-you-go, UK Call Sharer bundles of 500 to 60,000 minutes shared across your users, or UK Unlimited, which BT partner Netify lists at £10.47 per user per month for new customers. International Call Sharer bundles are available separately.
As a result, Zoom's headline price includes your calls, while BT's headline price doesn't. When we compare quotes with business owners, this is the single most common reason BT Cloud Voice ends up costing more than expected.
Matched-Tier Comparison: Pro Plus vs Connect
These are the closest like-for-like options for a small business that wants unlimited UK calls, a mobile app and video meetings in one system.
Feature | Zoom Pro Plus | BT Cloud Voice Connect |
|---|---|---|
Price | £15.38 per user per month (annual) or £18.45 (monthly) | £24.21 per user per month at list (£13.74 licence plus £10.47 calls) |
Contract | Monthly or annual | 24, 36 or 60 months |
Inclusive UK calls | Unlimited to UK and Irish landlines and mobiles | Unlimited to UK landlines and mobiles |
Video meetings | Up to 100 participants, 30 hours per meeting | Webex, up to 100 participants |
Voicemail | Voicemail with transcription | Voicemail to email |
Call recording | Included | Paid add-on, from £2 per user per month |
Auto attendant (automated menu) | Included, unlimited | Paid add-on, £8 per site per month |
CRM integration | Salesforce, HubSpot and others via Zoom's app marketplace | CRM Integrator add-on, £3 per user per month |
Team chat | Included | Included in the Webex app |
Annual price rises | Not published in advance | £1 per licence every April |
At this level, Zoom includes more as standard. BT's model suits businesses that want to pay only for the features each person uses, since you can mix Basic, Connect and Collaborate licences across your team. We found that the add-on approach works well for a business with a receptionist, a few desk users and one or two managers, but it takes careful quoting to avoid paying for extras nobody uses.
What is Zoom Phone Best For?
Zoom Phone is built for businesses that want calls, meetings and chat in one app, with a low monthly cost and the freedom to cancel. It suits hybrid and remote teams, especially those already paying for Zoom meetings.
Key Features of Zoom Phone
Published UK pricing from £8 per user per month, with unlimited UK and Ireland calling from £12
One app for calls, video meetings and team chat on desktop and mobile, so a call can move into a video meeting with one click
Voicemail transcription, AI post-call summaries and voicemail prioritisation on its phone plans, according to Zoom's plan comparison
UK SMS and online fax included, although Expert Market notes MMS picture messages aren't available on UK numbers
Wide handset choice, with certified phones from brands including Poly, Yealink, AudioCodes, Jabra and Logitech, plus remote provisioning so phones don't need setting up one by one
Integrations with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Salesforce and Slack, and a large app marketplace
UK number porting and 999 emergency calling support
Trade-Offs to Consider
Support is largely self-serve. Zoom's pricing page says live chat is for accounts spending more than $10 a month and phone support for accounts spending more than $200 a month
Reporting is basic. Queue dashboards and historical call analytics need the Zoom Phone Power Pack, which Expert Market lists at £20 a month
Calls abroad are metered unless you add international calling, listed at £8 a month for unlimited calls to more than 15 countries
We couldn't find a free trial for Zoom Phone, so you'll be paying from day one
Nobody installs anything for you. That's fine for a confident small team, but a business moving from an old on-site phone system may want more hand-holding
Zoom Phone works well if you want a modern, low-cost system you can set up yourself, but it's a thinner service wrapper than BT's if you want someone else to handle the switch.
If you're comparing Zoom against other cloud providers, our RingCentral vs 8x8 comparison covers two of its closest rivals.
What is BT Cloud Voice Best For?
BT Cloud Voice is built for businesses of five or more users that want a traditional office phone system's features without the hardware, delivered and supported by BT. It suits existing BT customers moving off ISDN or PSTN lines, and businesses that want configured desk phones, installation help and one supplier for phones and broadband.
Key Features of BT Cloud Voice
Three licence tiers you can mix across your team, so a warehouse phone doesn't cost the same as a manager's licence
Flexible call plans, from pay as you go to shared minute bundles and UK Unlimited, plus shared international bundles
Desk phones tested and configured by BT before they arrive, with free handsets available on qualifying deals through partners
Optional LAN, cabling and on-site installation, which matters if your office network isn't ready for VoIP
Add-ons for businesses with busier phone lines, including a receptionist console, call centre queues, call recording and call analytics
Local numbers from anywhere in the UK, so a Birmingham office can give its Manchester sales manager a Manchester number
A 24/7 UK-based helpdesk, according to BT
Priority for calls over other internet traffic when you run Cloud Voice on BT broadband or a BTnet leased line
Trade-Offs to Consider
Calls aren't included in the licence price, so the real cost per user is roughly double the headline figure at list price
Contracts run for 24, 36 or 60 months, with the lowest licence prices only on the 60-month term
Licence prices rise by £1 a month every April. On the 60-month price list, Basic climbs from £10.52 to £15.52 by April 2031, almost 50% higher than today
Only phones from BT's Cloud Voice range can be used, so existing handsets from other brands may need replacing
Call recording, auto attendant menus and CRM integration all cost extra
It's designed for five users and above; smaller businesses are pointed towards BT's simpler products
If you use a non-BT internet connection, BT says you're responsible for resolving any connection problems with your broadband provider
BT Cloud Voice works well if you want a managed system with UK support and don't mind a long commitment, but it's an expensive choice at list price and a restrictive one if you might change supplier within five years.
Is Zoom or BT Cloud Voice Cheaper?
Zoom Phone Pricing
Zoom publishes its prices and lets you buy online. For UK buyers, Expert Market reports UK & IRL Metered at £8 per user per month, UK & IRL Unlimited at £12, Pro Plus at £15.38 (annual) or £18.45 (monthly) and Business Plus at £17.08 (annual) or £20.49 (monthly), all excluding VAT and checked in March 2026.
It's worth being careful with Zoom prices you find online. Much of what ranks in search is US pricing in dollars, with plans called US & Canada Metered and US & Canada Unlimited. Zoom's own pricing page showed US dollar prices when we checked in September 2026, and another UK price site listed higher sterling figures of £8.99 and £15.99 in June 2026. Confirm the live price for your business before you budget.
Add-ons are where costs climb. The Power Pack for queue analytics, extra phone numbers (from £4 a month) and international calling (£8 a month) are all charged on top.
BT Cloud Voice Pricing
BT publishes list prices for its licences. On a 60-month term, Basic costs £10.52, Connect £13.74 and Collaborate £20.09 per user per month, excluding VAT. According to Netify, shorter 24 and 36-month terms cost £11.06, £14.42 and £21.31 respectively.
On top of the licence, you'll pay for:
A call plan, with UK Unlimited at £10.47 per user per month for new customers (£11.81 if you're re-signing)
A one-off £10 configuration charge per user
A £100 connection charge per site, often waived if you take BT broadband or a leased line at the same time
Handsets, from around £75 each, although partners often supply them free on qualifying deals
Any add-ons, such as call recording (£2 to £7 per user per month, depending on how long recordings are kept) or an auto attendant (£8 per site per month)
List price isn't what most businesses pay. BT authorised partners can apply discounts from BT's internal pricing tool, and Netify advertises licence discounts of up to 65% for five or more users, although call plans and configuration charges stay at list price. When we speak to business owners who've gone direct to BT, many didn't know partner pricing existed.
What a 10-Person Team Would Pay
Zoom UK & IRL Unlimited | Zoom Pro Plus (annual) | BT Cloud Voice Connect, UK Unlimited | |
|---|---|---|---|
Monthly cost | £120 | £153.80 | £242.10 |
First-year cost | £1,440 | £1,845.60 | £2,905.20, plus £200 one-off charges |
Includes video meetings | 40 minutes per meeting | 30 hours per meeting | Yes, via Webex |
Contract | Monthly or annual | Annual | 60 months |
Excludes VAT, handsets and add-ons. BT figures exclude the April 2027 licence rise. Netify estimates the same BT setup at £153.79 a month after partner discount, which is indicative.
How BT's Annual Rises Add Up
A £1 rise sounds small. Over a five-year contract, it adds up.
From | Connect licence | Connect + UK Unlimited (per user, per month) |
|---|---|---|
2026 | £13.74 | £24.21 |
1 April 2027 | £14.74 | £25.21 |
1 April 2028 | £15.74 | £26.21 |
1 April 2029 | £16.74 | £27.21 |
1 April 2030 | £17.74 | £28.21 |
1 April 2031 | £18.74 | £29.21 |
BT list prices, excluding VAT. Assumes the UK Unlimited call plan stays at £10.47.
By the final year, the Connect licence costs 36% more than it does today. Zoom doesn't publish future increases, so its prices could also rise at renewal, but a monthly or annual plan lets you leave if they do.
In practice, Zoom Phone is cheaper at list price for almost any small team. A well-negotiated BT deal can close most of the gap, but only if you're comfortable locking in for five years.
Zoom vs BT Cloud Voice: Pros and Cons
Zoom Phone | BT Cloud Voice | |
|---|---|---|
Pros | Low, published UK pricing | 24/7 UK-based helpdesk |
Cons | Self-serve support unless you spend more | Calls charged on top of the licence |
Contracts, Handsets and Customer Service
Contract Length and Billing
This is the biggest practical difference between the two. Zoom bills monthly or annually, and its pricing FAQ says you can cancel auto-renewal at any time during your plan term. BT Cloud Voice licences are sold on 24, 36 or 60-month terms, and BT's brochure confirms the contract carries a minimum period.
Before signing with BT, ask about early termination charges, whether you can reduce user numbers mid-contract and whether the partner can offer a shorter term. In our experience, businesses that are growing fast or unsure about their office plans are better served by shorter commitments, even at a slightly higher monthly price.
Handsets and Hardware
Zoom supports a broad range of certified desk phones and headsets, so you may be able to reuse compatible handsets you already own. BT says only IP phones from its Cloud Voice range can be used, although it tests and configures them for you. If you've recently bought desk phones, check compatibility with both providers before you compare prices.
Integrations
Zoom has the stronger integration story for most small businesses. It connects with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Salesforce and Slack as standard, and its app marketplace covers most mainstream business software. BT Cloud Voice offers a CRM Integrator add-on for click-to-dial and caller pop-ups, and a cheaper CRM Lite option for Outlook and Google Contacts, but you pay per user for either.
International Calling
Neither provider includes international calls as standard. Zoom offers an unlimited international calling add-on covering more than 15 countries, while BT sells shared international minute bundles of 100 to 10,000 minutes to landlines, or 100 to 2,000 minutes to landlines and mobiles. If you call abroad every week, Zoom's flat add-on is simpler to budget. If you call abroad occasionally, a small BT bundle shared across the team may cost less.
What Real Businesses Say
When we looked at Trustpilot in September 2026, neither provider had a profile that reflects its phone system alone. Zoom's profile (zoom.us) has a TrustScore of around 1.3 out of 5 from more than 1,000 reviews, but most reviewers are talking about Zoom Meetings and billing rather than Zoom Phone.
BT has two relevant profiles: the BT Business profile (business.bt.com) scores around 3.7 out of 5 from roughly 11,500 reviews, while BT's main profile (bt.com), which mixes home and business customers, scores around 1.3 out of 5 from about 20,000 reviews.
Negative BT Business reviews tend to focus on slow fault resolution and contract disputes, including promises made at sale that weren't honoured later. Positive reviews often name individual staff at local BT Business partners. Independent testing from Expert Market praised Zoom Phone's clean, easy interface but criticised its reporting and self-serve support.
None of these scores are focused on the phone product, and business software reviews tend to attract a smaller, more complaint-led sample than consumer services.
Who Should Consider Zoom Phone?
Zoom Phone is worth considering for your business phone system if your company:
Already uses Zoom for meetings and wants calls in the same app
Wants unlimited UK calling for a low, predictable monthly price
Prefers monthly or annual billing to a multi-year contract
Has fewer than five users, or expects its headcount to change
Is comfortable setting up the system itself without on-site help
Who Should Consider BT Cloud Voice?
BT Cloud Voice is worth considering for your business phone system if your firm:
Has five or more users and wants a managed system with UK support
Is an existing BT customer moving off ISDN or PSTN lines before the switch-off
Wants desk phones configured for you, plus help with cabling and installation
Has a mix of roles, such as reception, warehouse and office staff, that suit different licence tiers
Is happy to commit for several years in return for a partner-discounted price
Best Alternatives to Zoom and BT Cloud Voice
Zoom Phone and BT Cloud Voice sit at opposite ends of the market, and neither is the only option. When we compare the wider market, these alternatives stand out:

RingCentral | £12.99 to £29.99 (annual billing) | Published pricing with a large integration marketplace |
bOnline | From £7 | Sole traders and very small UK teams wanting cheap, simple calling |

FAQs About Zoom Phone and BT Cloud Voice
Is Zoom Phone or BT Cloud Voice cheaper?
Zoom Phone, at list price. Its UK & IRL Unlimited plan costs £12 per user per month with unlimited UK calls included, while BT Cloud Voice Connect with UK Unlimited calls costs £24.21 per user per month at list. BT partner discounts can narrow the gap considerably, but usually on a 60-month contract.
Does BT Cloud Voice include unlimited UK calls?
No, not in the licence. BT Cloud Voice licences cover the phone system's features, and calls are charged separately. You can choose pay as you go, shared minute bundles or a UK Unlimited call plan, listed at £10.47 per user per month for new customers.
Does Zoom Phone work in the UK?
Yes. Zoom sells a UK and Ireland calling plan with a UK phone number, and its Unlimited version includes unlimited calls to UK and Irish landlines and mobiles. Calls to other countries are charged per minute unless you add international calling.
How long is a BT Cloud Voice contract?
24, 36 or 60 months. The lowest licence prices are on the 60-month term, and BT adds £1 per licence per month every April during the contract.
Can I keep my existing business number?
Yes. Both Zoom and BT can port your existing UK number. BT says porting usually takes up to four hours on your go-live day, and often around an hour.
Do I need BT broadband to use BT Cloud Voice?
No. BT Cloud Voice works on any connection with enough bandwidth. However, BT only prioritises call traffic on its own connections, and on a non-BT connection you'll need to resolve any broadband faults with your own provider.
Our broadband speed guide and guide to company broadband reliability explain what to check first.
Can I use my existing desk phones?
Possibly with Zoom, and probably not with BT. Zoom supports certified handsets from several major brands, while BT only allows phones from its own Cloud Voice range.
Is BT Cloud Voice suitable for a business with fewer than five users?
No. BT says Cloud Voice is designed for businesses with five or more users, and points smaller businesses towards its simpler Cloud Phone product.
Our Verdict: Zoom or BT Cloud Voice?
If you run a small or hybrid UK business that wants low monthly costs, unlimited UK calls and the freedom to leave, Zoom Phone is the stronger starting point. Choose UK & IRL Unlimited if you only need calls, or Pro Plus if your team also lives in video meetings.
If you have five or more users, want BT to supply and configure your phones, and value a UK helpdesk and a single supplier for phones and broadband, BT Cloud Voice is worth a quote. Get it through a BT authorised partner, check what's included in the call plan, and work out the five-year cost with the annual £1 rises built in.
A two-person business may be overpaying with either, and a busy customer service team may need reporting tools that neither includes as standard. It's worth comparing a few more providers side by side before you commit.
